Muslims In Athens

Athens is the only European capital without an official mosque. Some 200,000 Muslims living in the city, mostly migrants from Africa and the Middle East, have little legal recognition of their faith. They worship in makeshift mosques, housed in basements and warehouses. After a decade of negotiations authorities have signed a deal to build a state-funded mosque, the first since the end of Ottoman rule.
