Cyprus, the Injured Island

Cypriots had had the experience of rebuilding their country after a 1974 Turkish invasion triggered by a brief Greek-inspired coup and the consequent partition of the island. Recent discoveries of natural gas deposits in the waters off Cyprus has fueled reunification efforts that would not only heal the wounds on each side of its ethnic divide but be a boon to an economy badly hit by its extensive exposure to Greek debt.
